About us

Welcome to the Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools!

Competence • Contacts • Continuity

Our mission is to achieve real and practical internationalisation in schools.

The Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools, at Uppsala University, provides information and resources to schools, principally in the areas of internationalisation, culture and language didactics. In 1964 we were given national responsibility by Parliament for providing professional development for teachers with a focus on internationalisation . To this end we organise courses, seminars and conferences in Sweden and abroad, and provide tailor-made in-service training for individual teachers, teaching teams, schools and municipalities. The Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools also offers several courses for which the students receive university credit points. We aim to provide high quality professional development which combines cutting edge research with proven experience of the reality of working in schools. Our main target group is teachers of English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, mother-tongue languages, and Swedish as a Second Language.

The Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools is a department within Uppsala University. As such we are governed by the Higher Education Act (‘högskolelagen’) and share the University’s objectives concerning research, education and interaction with society. Some of the employees in our department hold PhD degrees and belong to research teams within Uppsala University or other universities. Thanks to an extensive network of international contacts we keep up-to-date with social developments and current issues in the countries where our target languages are spoken.

The Centre for Professional Development and Internationalisation in Schools is the Swedish contact organisation for the language projects of the European Council (the European Language Portfolio) and the Pestalozzi in-service programme for teachers. Read more at /LINK/
